Wounds can happen in relationships, but so can healing. Cultivating safety and trust is my priority from the very first session. From this foundation of compassionate presence, I utilize two primary trauma-informed therapeutic techniques: Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR to help you understand yourself, why you feel and act the way you do, manage intense emotions, and ultimately, to help you feel a new level of clarity, confidence, connectedness, and peace.

Three reasons to work with me

Choosing a therapist can be difficult. Here are some reasons my clients like working with me.

1. I help you feel safe

When you’ve been through trauma, vulnerability can be scary. It’s essential that you feel safe from the very first session. My clients report feeling safe with me and say I have a calming presence.

2. You will understand yourself better

The two primary therapeutic methods I use, IFS and EMDR, are effective in healing trauma. You’ll understand yourself in a new way and why you feel the way you feel.

3. You’ll have the tools you need

As helpful as therapy is, most of your life happens between sessions! My goal is to help you thrive between appointments. I’ll give you the tools, resources, and exercises you need to feel better every day.

“Working with Sam was my first experience with counseling. Shortly after starting with him, I had an unusual amount of life stressors and trauma happen to my family. Sam equipped me with the tools and resources necessary to make it through the most challenging season of my life. I never felt judged when sharing my most vulnerable thoughts and feelings. I have become more grounded, which has enriched relationships with my wife, kids, family, and friends. The benefits and lessons I have learned from Sam will last a lifetime and benefit many people in my life.”

Reaching Out Can Feel Difficult

If you're considering therapy, you may be feeling nervous, uncertain, or even overwhelmed.

That's completely normal. My goal is to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

You don't need to know exactly what to say. You don't need to have everything figured out. We'll start where you are.

What Happens Next?

Step 1: Schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

Step 2: We'll discuss what brings you to therapy and whether we're a good fit.

Step 3: If it feels like a good match, we'll schedule your first appointment.

Step 4: Together we'll create a plan to help you move toward greater healing, freedom, and peace.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Many people assume they need to be in crisis before seeking therapy, but that is not the case.

Therapy can be helpful if you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, shame, grief, stress, or patterns that seem difficult to change on your own.

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Therapy provides a space to better understand your experiences, gain clarity, and move toward healing.

What issues do you help people with?

I work with adults facing a variety of challenges, including:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Childhood wounds

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Shame and self-criticism

  • Grief and loss

  • Men's issues

  • Pornography and compulsive sexual behaviors

  • Religious trauma

  • Scrupulosity

  • Faith-related concerns

My approach focuses on addressing the underlying causes of suffering rather than simply managing symptoms.

What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy helps people heal from painful experiences that continue to affect their emotions, relationships, behaviors, and sense of self.

Many people think trauma only refers to severe events. In reality, trauma can result from childhood neglect, emotional abuse, betrayal, chronic criticism, family conflict, loss, or other experiences that overwhelmed a person's ability to cope.

Through approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR therapy, trauma healing can help reduce emotional distress and create lasting change.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy model that helps people understand the different parts of themselves.

You may have parts that feel anxious, angry, ashamed, overwhelmed, or critical. Rather than fighting these parts, IFS helps us approach them with curiosity and compassion.

As healing occurs, people often experience greater emotional freedom, self-understanding, and inner peace.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process unresolved traumatic and distressing experiences. Many people find EMDR helpful for trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, and negative self-beliefs.

The goal is not to erase memories but to reduce their emotional impact so they no longer control your present-day life.

Do you offer Catholic counseling?

Yes.

For clients who desire it, therapy can incorporate Christian and Catholic perspectives on healing, identity, relationships, forgiveness, suffering, and personal growth.

Faith integration is always client-led. Some clients want faith woven throughout therapy, while others simply want a therapist who understands and respects their beliefs.

Do I have to be Catholic or Christian to work with you?

No.

I welcome clients from a variety of backgrounds and belief systems. My primary goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy that supports your healing and respects your values.

Whether faith is central to your life, part of your background, or not something you currently identify with, you are welcome here.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on your goals, history, and current challenges.

Some clients experience meaningful progress within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work, particularly when healing from childhood trauma or long-standing emotional patterns.

My goal is not simply symptom relief but lasting change and greater freedom in your life and relationships.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another.

We will discuss your concerns, goals, personal history, and what you hope to gain from therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and determine whether I am a good fit for your needs.

There is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple.

Schedule a consultation through the website, and we can discuss your goals, answer your questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

Healing begins with a single step, and you do not have to take that step alone.
